I have exactly the same problem with my Lewmar Profish 1000. Ed Miller talked me out of a free fall. Great upgrade. The through hull windlass looks sexy but the cons are many esspecially when bottom fishing in 60 plus feet of water. You will spend just as much time up at the front of the boat messing with the anchor with the windlass as you will without. I think they do list it for "just the pro" also, but then maybe it's not as necessary on the regular pro vs. the pro/fish, since no free-fall mode. The anchor locker is just not big enough to hold enough chain and rope, which causes the windlass to jam. apparently it has arrived at home so will put back on next week when back in Perth and fingers crossed, will be good as new (and just in time for cray season ). and the automatic f.f. Just a thought. as the clutch wheel winds in but doesn't tighten, I'm thinking that whatever thread the clutch wheel winds in on my be stripped right at the point that it tension the gypsy wheel. I had a problem with my Simpson Lawrence which seems to work similiarly. Mine came rigged on the boat and the rope is a little unusual not regular silver rope or nylon. The anchor locker on my 2120 seems to be rather small and was wondering if it would hold the 200ft and still have a foot of drop left that the Lewmar tech. Works fine past the splice and through the chain but had one hockle after another as well as jamming. It worked flawlessly in the beginning. I rarely anchor in water over 40 foot in the bay. Good luck with it. I have removed the free fall system as that was giving me a lot of drama. there have been a couple of time where i have anchored and just used the winch to hold it (i think its rated to over 5t so didnt think this should be an issue) and a couple of times where i have had to use a bit of boat and winch grunt to free the anchor- so if this contributed to it im not sure. It doesn't get stuck very hard but I always take a 1/2" breaker bar with me to give it a little turn. has anyone had this problem or know what/ how / where to fix it? I may at some point add a Lewmar ProFish 700 horizontal windlass with free fall. Sounds ridiculous when spending over $2K for an upgrade & you have to "settle" for less - than - desirable operating conditionsbut based on the little research I've done regarding this issue (after the fact! I had an issue with a ProSport and contact Lewmar in the UK via their website Lewmar.com They were very helpful and provided excellent feedback and support. I had to thoroughly degrease it to get it to work, and now I still have to regularly tighten the clutch during use. i had never had the drive cap on or off before and has only been subject to minimal use over the last 18months so how it manged to cross thread i dont know. If you're not getting the trollas long as you know it won't be perfectbeats the hell out of manual haul. It may not display this or other websites correctly. as suspected, when i went to remove the drive cap, i had to use a fair bit of force to manually unwind the cap (which you should be able to undo by hand) and when i got it off, the internal thread of the drive cap had been threaded with metal remaining on the shaft thread that comes from the winch motor (this meant that the shaft thread was still ok which was lucky).
