One of those scents to wear in the fresh air and definitely not near food as I found too much can induce nausea and headache. Nothing compares to what the original formulation was. I smelled this one at a a store and I have this feeling of old lady by the beach and after sun lotion.Yes, sunscreen and sand in it. Beautiful! Can't wait to try this!!! Not my jam, but the best way to describe it is "the scent of warm sand after a hot sunny day". I gave the bottle away. I'm not sure why I'd overlooked this one for so long, but I'm glad to have found it now. I don't get the name of this perfume at all. Classic perfumes stand the test of the time. Being a lover of any perfume that smells beachy, with a suntan lotion vibe, I was sure it would be love all over again, but it did not go that way. I always got compliments whenever I wore it.This is probably the best drugstore perfume ever made. There are occasional wafts of peach hours in. I sprayed my jeans and 30 mins later I smelled wonderful. Jasmine, gardenia with a little fruity flavor from the peach. I can't see how anyone would call this one soft. I fell in love with this delicious scent in the late 80's & wore it every day! There is a definite coconutty creaminess which makes the scent very reminiscent of summer. I have been searching for something else, cheap to expensive, that smells very much like this. I am not a fan of this scent, though a family member has worn it as long as I can remember. Its more stunning than KKW Crystal Gardenia, and shouldnt even be compared to the cheap synthetic smell of Jovan Island Gardenia. And is that orange? My sister in law was on the beach and I commented on her gorgeous scent. Not a wow for me, but long lasting for a perfume that cheap. Everytime the wind blew it blew the scent off my arms and up into my nose and it smelt like there was a beach right around the corner (and I am in Georiga LOL). I expected something very different. love! Scenting perfumes are those that linger in your memories. Enjoy! The 'sand' effect is subtle but still very obvious, with a lightly tart peach accord that lingers throughout the scent's duration. Lasts well, great versatile scent. The minute I walked in the door, my mother (who wore Chanel No. Id love to snag another bottle of this if I could. Too much citrus and tang for me. I wear this and feel cozy and safe. Great to get you feeling better when the cold depressing months come! Ran into Walmart to check sand and sable out. Clean, friendly, and laid back. Clean and simple. Gardenia overload is what I smell. It may not be appropriate for all seasons, but I think I will be spraying this on all year because it makes me feel happy! Strong and lasting. It's a great one worth checking out. Become a member of this online perfume community and you will be able to add your own reviews. Nice cologne that lasts longer than most cologne. Received this today, it is absolutely beautiful. No gardenia, tuberose, jasmine, any of that, just straight up sand. I have only so much tolerance for strong white floralsjust too much tuberose, gardenia too sweetand it fades to nothing in a few hours. I gave it to my mom lol. Nasty watermelons and aldehydes. It matches great with love spell too, or all 3 like I use it hehe. Sand & Sable is enormous blooming white gardenia, creamy and clean and beachy, elegant and sweet and soapy and solar. Sand & Sable is in my tuberose/gardenia stable because it smells good, hits all the right floral notes for me and is CHEAP. A gardenia dream! I too got it here in Canada for $4 I really appreciate it for a beautiful spring day. The closest I've come is the pure essential tuberose oil I purchased from my local health food store. Just a simple scent for all ages. It is been on the market for decades. I believe I have a sample decanted from the current formulation. I bought a tiny bottle at Christmas. This perfume is a big comfy blanket. In spite of other reviews, I find the smell stays on me, the night clothes and sheets quite well. I'm not a fan of Sand And Sable. This is a warm, creamy fruity/tropical/banana tuberose. it has a strange effect on me. Sand and Sable! Although I don't wear big floral fragrances real often, Sand & Sable is one I do like. I don't feel like running off to bathroom to scrub, like I said it's not overwhelming or screechy at all. For this reason, this scent is pure comfort. Bit then we don't get much sun do we? I am thinking this was from the 80's and it's preserved itself perfectly. this scent lasts a while . This scent has been a part of my memory for about as long as I could understand what it was to have a "signature scent". So glad I listened to the reviews and picked it upand what a price for a great smelling perfume! it draws lots of compliments. A dirty, earthy, sweet thing. I first purchased this after reading a description in a women's magazine pretty much just after it first came out. It's a soft, sweet floral that is gentle to the nose. Or suntan oil? A pretty, soft white floral scent with a lot of greenness and a fizzy, sparkling peachy note. A fresh, light gardenia fragrance. Prell shampoo is what I get when I smell it. I stumbled across Sand & Sable on my hunt for a summer frag realizing: I already have it! The scent might not be subtle or multi-faceted or transcendent or any other adjectives of this nature, but it smells like gardenias and not room spray. PLEASE include in your reviews if you are talking about the original vintage or the less than wonderful reformulations. One of the most feminine scents out there. The reviews I read, I imagined it to be so much more different, so I blind bought it. The. what goes on in the power of the mind? In my opinion this smells better from a distance. I blind bought this having no idea what it smelled like. I loved this the first time I smelled it. Pollyjean23 took the words right out of my mouth!! I am now on a drugstore classics testing spree - after the amazing success I had with charlie white, I now want to test all of the other fragrances I have passed over throughout the years. I smell coconut and soap. This is a cheaper version of Kim Kardashian. It's summer in a bottle! Happy that vintages of this are always undervalued too ! I wish they would make something stronger!!! I took it back. I've got this spritzed on my wrist and I am loving it. Sand and Sable is a nice fragrance and deserves a better name. The dry down smelled so good. Turns out that neither were to my taste, but Im pretty sure that if you like Fracas youll like this. Who would have thought of that? I'm on a tuberose kick lately and am searching out every tuberose heavy fragrance I can smell in search of my perfect tuberose scent. not sure why. I also like the name because I find it a very casual fragrance that would be totally appropriate for evening if desired. Sand & Sable is beautiful and distinctive and affordable. My least favorite note. Beachy, surfer girl type mood you feel when you smell this one. I likely wouldn't wear it in the winter. A little seems to go a long way. Made me feel like I maturely stood out in the crowd. Maybe an after shower type of deal. Fresh beachy air that is, coconut, sunscreen, and white florals. Got some gift boxes of drugstore perfume on after-holiday sale and Sand and Sable was in one. I don't smell beach, just straight up GARDENIA! A lovely scent of white flowers and an almost "wet towel" smell. shall re edit ;). So of course I hated Sand & Sable after sniffing the tester at Walgreens. It's a slap of stuff at first, but give it time and she mellows into something magical. What memories this brings back for me, a teen of the 80's. I have always loved this scent, clean, flowery, and casual but it never sticks around.. Where was I on my gardenia search path, how come I never even bothered to try this scent? :) Needless to say, when I smell it, I have wonderful memories of her. Online right now: 2,895, Fragrantica in your language: I recently purchased a small bottle to revisit the fragrance. And then that peach comes flying right at your head and splatters there! I want to get my hands on a bottle! day 1 sprayed in the bathwater. This is probably the highest-quality scent I ever wore as a teen. Well, I've heard many positive things about this fragrance so when I spotted it at K mart for $5 decided to give it a go. Thanks c3c for introducing me to this little gem! Feminine but unpretentious, happy and easy going; a very pretty fragrance that still manages to be grown up. I remember it being sweet and a bit fruityI think I liked it at the time but my chemistry or taste has changed. Not much else. I love this perfume and like many, it's pure nostalgia. I had forgotten all about it until a family beach vacation with 30 of us in a beach front house. I spritzed some on at a Fay's drug store and immediately fell in love with it. I fail to see the connection with sand but the white floral theme does remind me of a lush tropical garden in the evening. When I was growing up, I somehow got a sniff of this at a store somewhere, and ever since then it has been THAT perfume. Mostly jasmine. I love itreminds me of good times gone by and summer! Something will come along and something about a scent (the whole perfume or a single note) will catch you off guard and set your mind adrift to somewhere or someone from another time and it will be branded in your heart and mind. Similar to Fracas, but unlike Fracas, it makes me sick to my stomachin the same way that eating too many crab apples does..could never wear it. I discovered it in high school, and still enjoy it when I come across a bottle now that I'm in my 50s. Plus, it manages to do this inexpensively. I can understand why people woild like it, because I really WANT to like it when I initially smell it me, but I just can't. She replied it's Sand and Sable. Tuberose and gardenia . Now after trying so many gourmands, body sprays and beach scents I find this refreshing and real. I was born in 1999 but I have always loved everything old even down to beauty products. The fine memories I had Of this from decades ago are out the window. It's just as good as Michael Kors Very Hollywood but almost free comparatively and you don't have to put up with the annoying ads. A sweet scent. Sillage is low, longevity is about 2-3 hours (it's a cologne) I purchased this this as a blind buy when looking for a beachy fragrancea wonderful home run! thank you again!!! I got it from Surrender to Chance. I already left a review but this is amazing layered with VS coconut passion (spray or lotion) and I had a couple dudes swooning over how delicious i smell lol. Amazingly,i have never become sick of it. I think it can smell very different at different times on my skin, being a warm weather spray for sure. I'll be buying more, as well as a full size. It makes me feel romantic. However, after smelling it recently, it has an underlying funk to it that I can't identify. This had a lot of promise for me from all the good reviews and the sound of the notes and comparisons to the smell of suntan lotion. I LOVEEEE Madonna's Truth or Dare. I am glad to have it, it's amazingly inexpensive, and I do look forward to getting to know it better. It's just so damn good that Michael Kors and Jennifer Anniston had to copy it. it always reminds me of a bright, sunny day with the bluest of skies. When I was younger my mom had this and it smelled so good. Very light for a white floral; the rose and fruit softens the floral notes appealingly. But I have to be in the right mood and in the right place. I'm amazed to see that there aren't amber or musk in the notes. I agree with all the reviews that say "creamy". really pretty. Love the interplay of tuberose, gardenia, jasmine and sharp green that lasts for a surprisingly long stretch of time (two hours on average) that then becomes a clean, soapy, lovely, musky skin scent that refuses to settle down, even after a shower. Very disappointing as I would absolutely wear this every day of my life if someone would formulate it in a perfume! It has wonderful longevity on my skin! I want to keep this in my collection!! because of the sweetness this won't be a daily scent for me, but i know i will frequently be in the mood for it during any season. It was on sale for $5 for a 50 ML bottle at Walmart. I expected a rather "bright" scent, as that is how I like my white floral scents to be, but was greeted with a subdued, dense sand-like scent. To Grottola:Your mini has turned for sure! I shied away from it because my daughter does not like tuberose. For the price, what more can you ask for? Sadly I gave it away before i found Fragtantica. The current formulation is much like I remember from the 1990's, but with less sillage.which is fine as in the past, it was very strong! I wish it had a bit more of the bubble gum tuberose, but it's good enough for me to wear and still enjoy around the house or trips to the store. Don't underestimate this scent, this one was a trailblazer. I have the cologne spray in the tubular bottle, going to track down some of the edt in the circular perfume bottle. To me, of it smells like this, I like it heavy and when I do find it and buy one ,ill probably spray it on all day! Do I get anything beach like? This one is for the gardenia lovers indeed. A dear fragrantica friend sent me a few tuberose scents to test awhile back and I can agree that this one IS very similar to Michael Kors which as it turns out was the one scent out of the samples she sent that I preferred the most. It just doesn't last. Wow, I got a big surprise when I sprayed this on, settled I to watch some tv and smelled what I thought was Michael Kors. It's not an obnoxious gardenia that screams, it's very subtle and charming. Perfume lovers: 793,395 So I pulled out my vintage bottle from the collection. Stays quite close to the skin - I'm surprised after very loud opening. What a wonderful surprise! It sits close to the skin I can see this as being used like a body spray or great for layering. Fragrantica Trends is a relative value that shows the interest of Fragrantica members in this fragrance over time. I usually prefer an opulent, heady, creamy white floral but Sand and Sable is more fresh and casual, so if that's more your thing then you may enjoy this fragrance. It reminds me of my childhood. I remember spraying this on at Walmart in my late teens. Probably my all time favorite fragrance. it smells too powdery on me and overly flowery. as a lover of creamy smells and heavy white florals, this perfume is a perfect match for me. Good thing it was only 5 bucks. I dislike it when I wear it on my wrists and could never wear this near my face. It is a mostly linear fragrance for sure, but this is actually part of what I like. The old scent was very tropical, but not in a candy-sweet pina colada way or in a synthetic tanning-lotion way. It used to be lovely but they have reformulated all the life out it. You can read my first initial review of this one if you scroll down a bit, but since I wrote it I have come to love tuberose. There's a big difference between most originals and whatever it is that's marketed decades later. Such a great simple floral scent most girls could relate to in the coty line. Many many years ago I purchased this great little perfume for my grandmothershe loved jasmine and gardenia (together or apart). On me S&S smells like a lighter Fracas and I actually like it more. It was just a beautiful scent that conjured images of the most perfect evening on the most pristine beach on the most secluded, yet all-inclusive island. most of the day I could still smell it very strongly on me and could smell sun tan lotion, sun, sand and salty beach air. How anyone came up with that name is beyond me. Layers amazingly with ET Passion and Lady Stetson. =D, I highly recommend this bargain white floral (with a balanced, light, groundedness) fragrance. It's taken me a week to try it because when I got home and read the fragrantica notes I realized I had bought a tuberose scent. White floral lovers should at least give it a sniff! :). Waaaaaaaay to much jasmine for me. Light but slightly heady and addicting! Lovely white florals. Today tried it on me at the store and it was very beachy. It has moderate sillage but slightly short longevity, as it is an EDC. I have far too many vintage expensive perfumes which I adore of course. At opening, I get almost an evergreen-type note, quite sharp, along with the preview of the gardenia. Now it has a very chemical-ly aldehyde smell to it that didn't use to be there. Do I like it? It's got a warm comforting summery beachy scent. It reminds me of the movie "Beaches" of course. A classic drugstore cheapie that doesn't disappear -- and with a big loud tuberose to boot. I do smell the florals they are light simple yet exotic. Read about this perfume in other languages: Deutsch, Espaol, Franais, etina, Italiano, , Polski, Portugus, , , Nederlands, Srpski, Romn, , , , . Perhaps this is what Sand & Sable has become now, or maybe it still is what it was then & just doesn't work on this skin. I remember wearing this when I was just about a teenager. If you want a summery white floral that isn't too timid or bland give this a go, it has a creamy quality that very slightly reminds of Monoi eau des vahines, but I found that one to be too ylang heavy for my liking. My mom has this drugstore cheapie and it smells like an authentic gardenia. Lol. This starts out and remains a cringe-inducing gardenia bomb on me. I have learned it has that power. i dont care what anyone says. One day I sprayed some on from a tester at the drugstore, and, delighted with the heady gardenia scent, bought a small bottle. it does smell beachy, even though none of the listed notes are actually found at the beach. and the sea air would make me sleepy. It's become my favorite perfume, and since it's discontinued and becoming harder to find except on Ebay or other selling aps for sometimes ridiculous prices, I picked up a bottle of this today to try, as an "every day" alternative so I can HORD my T or D. It's not nearly as Tuberose heavy, or as creamy, or as just all around as "perfection" as Madonna's masterpiece, BUTI do enjoy it quite a bit! Either way, disappointment. One of my first favourites and continues to be a favourite of mine almost 10 years later. I remember thinking it smelled just like the beach. So this one is not for me, but as I smelled my wrist 30 minutes later I did feel sentimental and I thought of my Mother. I seriously even prefer Sand and Sable over Gardenia Chanel!!! I sprayed some on my "toes" one night after showering, thinking the alcohol will kill off any thing still hanging on the toes. My family was on vacation and we were picking up some items before going on our outing for the day. My grade school days in the early 90s to be exact. but it puts me in happy mode! A little. There's nothing particularly sandy and/or sabl-ey about it. Funny how the brain can hold onto a scent and remember it several decades later. This doesn't happen here with Sand & Sable. Very inoffensive, almost has a fresh shampoo smell. Now that I'm wearing it I am happy to say it's nowhere near as cloying as many tuberose/gardenia scents. SL Datura Noir is on the way as a blind buy and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's the one. I also wanted the tuberose to not be directly up my nose. Sharp, loud, greeeen Giorgio. If so, change it back. There is nothing to remind me of Sand or Sable. i love gardenia and musk. Wow really a simple yet neat scent. It is definitely a gardenia fragrance which I like, but the suntan lotion vibe is not quite the same. I wear this at night as well after a shower and before bed. I'm not a fan of either gardenia or tuberose, yet somehow the green notes temper them beautifully in here. I love this. A smooth and creamy gardenia that takes me back to warm sunny morns sipping my cofee while nature unfolded its beauty , and I could feel that sun (peach) on my skin! If you are, then this could definitely be a drugstore find! Ahhhhhh Sand & Sable.a classic! I especially enjoy it layered with Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar spray perfume, it gives it the perfect boost and seems to amplify what I enjoy about it. Sand? After the overwhelming chemical opening (reminds me of chemical laundering), it is pure tropical beach Tuberose. Sears had Holiday Mini stocking stuffers for $3.99 so I grabbed a bottle of this tonight. Soft and creamy, almost edible. I use this almost more than any of my expensive perfumes. SAND & SABLE is a straightforward, uncomplicated gardenia scent and for me, that's the long and short of it. Later that day, I kept sniffing my arm. Better than Michael Kors, because this smells like tuberose minus the strong banana smell that MK has. If you like citrus with gardenia you might like this one. I remember my mother HATED this perfume and would gag in our presence. This one just may grow on me. I love the summery nature of this perfume. I had just bought a back-up-bottle of Jovan's Island Gardenia (my fave drug store scent of all time) and just today a flea market vendor had a table of COTY gift sets for a mere $4.00 each! This may sound a little strange, but this scent reminds me of a ferret that hasn't been de-scented. I felt this one warmed up nice in my chemistry. She used to request this for Christmas every year and my dad would go get it for her. Predominantly gardenia, with a clear undertone of tuberose. It's very inexpensive and smells lovely. When I was a teen, I would sit outside in a lawn chair in Corpus Christi, TX,and the gardenia(from a neighbor's house?) It seems to last forever( all day)on me. i like the bright, cheerfulness of this composition. Heavy on the tuberose. Then, it wears off to a light, warm, gardenia with just a hint of sweetness. I absolutely think that is what makes me like her fragrance. Knocked it out of the park. This has been my signature since i was a preteen. This fragrance is excellent-it seems to melt into my skin rather than sitting on top of it. This is one fragrance where I have to say that I loved and miss the original formulation. This one is a Gardenia bomb! | Deutsch | Espaol | Franais | etina | Italiano | | Polski | Portugus | | | Nederlands | Srpski | Romn | | | | |, Copyrights 2006-2022 Fragrantica.com perfumes magazine - All Rights Reserved - do not copy anything without prior written permission. Really nice floral. Verdict: if you like gardenia give this a try. I'm sticking to my new love Jennifer anistons Lolavie. and I got a purse size bottle for only $3.00 which you can't beat. My interest waxes and wanes for this scent, which has a gardenia and suntan-lotion vibe. Being in the mood for a new summer frag, and being crazy about white flowers (especially tuberose), I decided to give the famous Sand $ Sable a try since it comes to mind every time I think of white flowers. Maybe my mini has turned, but this smells like watermelons and death. I used to hate it, but now I learned to appreciate it. I can understand the beach references but I get more of a sunny day in late May vibe. I love white floral bomb perfumes, and Upon spraying, it was nothing like I imagined. This definitely a "spray the air and walk through" fragrance. This is not the beachy, sweet coconut gardenia bomb that I remember from my teens. Its sillage is great too. I have not had a bottle in years so I think its time to revisit this old friend! It is a little harsh at the top but that disappears within minutes and it becomes a fresh but creamy white floral. 5) insisted that I return it immediately, because it was "too old" for me. I have loved Sand and sable for many years. I will be buying more soon, it smells like the one I loved as a teen. I thought it had the most wonderful smell of gardenia ever. I do think it smells like Jennifer Aniston! WIN/WIN. I purchased the gift set of a small and a large bottle, brand new on Amazon. Great dupe for MK and a this one has clearly stood the test of time. I had this one a while back. It's a balmy scent to me, somehow warm but cool at the same time; humid like a summer evening after a thunderstorm and you can smell the wet flowers warming again in the last of the day's sun. This scent is definitely a winner. Those smells are forgettable ones that smell good in passing but don't really "do it" for you. Back in the late 80's this was a common scent. I would buy again. Imagine a suede blanket, fresh tuberose bouquet and a vanilla cupcakerelaxing on a day off from work. Oh gosh this reminds me of the balmy mornings in Cuba when the white flowers surrounding our 'villa' would just waft by on the warm-sand scented air. I recentlybought a trio set of Sand & Sable for the Covid holidays and thought ofthe history when really not dealing with the House of Cotywhen Franois Coty founded the company yet I'd be first in line to join their current board of directors ! I mainly get gardenia from this, and I don't like gardenia very well. I was trying to figure out if this smells cheap or like a cheap bouquet of flowers or something and I just THINK it smells beachy, I don't know. Such a comfort smell! Remember it as a heady, strong gardenia scent. I have worn it to work, but I love this private affair I have at home at night in my boudoir. I'm not sure how much play it will get in my collection. On me it becomes a creamy skin scent that smells amazing. I am not quite sure how to explain it. I also want to try the Jovan Gardenia as well, and compare the 2, see which one is closer. A lot of creamy gardenia, which I love. I used to wear this in the summer time and I saw this at walmart and wanted it again, I remember it smelling like the beach. I crawled into bed and this wonderful experience happened. and btw, my toes look healthy, too! The original is a silage bomb and very potent compared to todays fragrances. It's perfect for outside wear. lovely. To me, this is Hawaii in a bottle. it is sold in every drugstore here in US, and the price is funny. My hubby also said I smelled cheap when I got back in the car from spraying Sand and Sable:(. Resin-like. In the 80's when this was released, everything was loud and bold, this one was a breath of fresh air. I know many like this as a warm weather scent, but because of it's comfy, cozy feel it gives me, I personally like to wear this is the fall and winter. I tried it recently a few times( even bought it) but its lost its appeal. I like it for home because I wore it in 7th grade so it brings me back to simple times. My favorite "drugstore" perfume! dried off, applied with a q-tip to skin pulse points so as to not gas everybody else. Thank God I have found that comfy scent. The scent settles quite soon to a creamy soft gardenia I was dreaming to get here - a joy to wear.
